Petty Booka consists of two ukulele-playing ladies form Tokyo: Petty and Booka. This world-famous pop duo plays covers of country, punk and classic rock songs in styles ranging from Hawaiian and Polynesian to country, bluegrass, punk, reggae, ska and ballroom - everything from a laid-back Polynesian cover of The Ramones' "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" to Madonna's "Material Girl" and Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces."
Since the release of their debut Toconuts Hawaii in 1995, Petty Booka have released 11 more themed albums featuring some of the greatest Japanese musicians around, including legend of exotic sound Martin Denny.
Making their first appearance in the U.S. at SXSW 2002, it was clear that Petty Booka's unique performances and alluring style would transcend boundaries. Genre, age and gender have no meaning to a group that mixes it all up as effectively as Petty Booka.
For Dancing with Petty Booka, the gals incorporated bossa nova, samba and dancehall beats into their covers in addition to recording their first original tune, written for them by Keitaro Tanami of the Pizzicato Five.
