The year 2003 was PROKOFIEV Year for many musicians and lovers of music. The great Russian composer died 50 years earlier in March of 1953. His death practically went unmentioned in the Soviet press, because the day he passed was also the same day that Stalin also died.
Presented here are the complete recordings of the music for the theatre plays of Hamlet and Boris Godunov. Coming clearly to the fore is the composers love for film, in which music plays an ever-changing role. Sometimes it is only an accompaniment, and remains in the background. Sometimes it takes the lead role as an expressive instrument of the dramatic treatment. Prokofiev's music for these plays forms a wonderful example for concert composition. Comes with extensive booklet and full texts translated in English.
