"Snow on the Waves" melds folk, rock, alt-country, and melodic pop into a musical crossbreed. Hayes’ knowing lyrics and voice are the poetic strokes over the record’s lilting grooves, propulsive rhythms, and haunting dirges. Many of Hayes’ aching, twisting songs are reflections of her wanderings through the United States and the Czech Republic; themes of love and fear cast a constant shadow over the recording. In addition to writing, singing, and playing acoustic guitar on the twelve tracks, Hayes produced the record with David McKittrick.
