We featured Strand of Oaks on a New to Us New To You segment a while back (and another shout-out to Muzzle of Bees for getting me to listen). To me, Strand of Oaks is a big question mark on the page. In a good way. In a great way. Timothy Showalter doesn’t have a ridiculous or off putting voice like some indie singer songwriters do. There’s no gimmick. There’s no persona. I’d like to think Showalter sits down at his laptop in a big bathroom in his house, queues it up, lays down a song with his guitar and then goes and makes macaroni and cheese for dinner. It’s honest. It’s pure. And it’s goddamn arresting.
