专辑简介

The fourth recording of the Vespers series, comprising Tones 7 and 8. This CD has a single recording of the fixed parts of Vespers, and includes the variable parts sung in both the Seventh and Eighth tone. Contains a liner note book with complete hymn text in English.
Vassilis Hadjinicolaou has given Orthodox Christians in America, and all those who are interested in Byzantine chant in English, a wonderful frame of reference. While the first two recordings in the "Byzantine Music in the New World" series were recorded with a choir from an OCA (Orthodox Church of America) parish with many converts and thus had a very broad and appealing sound, the "Vespers" series was recorded in a much more traditional Byzantine style. These are wonderful recordings for those who delight in the Byzantine vocal style and ornamentation of the vocal line, especially for those who want to know more of the tone cycle of Byzantine music, and particularly for those who desire to learn through hearing a very traditional way of singing this hymnology in English. The quality of the recordings is very good, and is very representative of what one would expect to hear during Great Vespers on a Saturday evening in a parish celebrating according to the Byzantine tradition. This recording of Tones 7 & 8 includes variable hymns in those tones for the respective weeks in the cycle of the Octoechos.
