　　i can't believe jon lucien is gone.
　　anyway, this is his second columbia lp, and it must be said that this is among his slickest attempts at mainstream jazz/r&b crossover success. but his voice can melt butter, here as always, and if you like mid-seventies slick pre-smooth jazz with a heavy dose of guest stars, you'll like this. his first columbia lp is i think a little better, and that will show up here soon.
　　i've always thought lucien was a bit like the male flora purim, though of course he was of caribbean and not brazilian origin. "gaku" here is probably the biggest rare treat, a groover that sounds a bit more like his classic rca albums. and there's "mi vida" with a sample worn out by united future organization, and the super schmalz-and-strings cover of "laura" that is somehow both awful and wonderful at the same time.
