. . . a technique like Mutter's can be mesmerising whatever the pace. The sweet, soft, high notes she spins out could not be any other player, and when she wants the music to breathe, she bends time with a freedom that suggests she has discovered her own personal theory of relativity.
Concert Review / Richard Fairman, Financial Times (London) / 05 February 2004

Mutter brings lithe grace and tonal intensity to her interpretation . . . Previn proves a fine partner . . . Mutter lingers beguilingly over Korngold's haunting melodies and phrases the solo part with exquisite taste, underlined by Previn's firm accompaniment.

The mannerist extremes of Mutter's style make her recording . . . persuasive . . . Previn . . . knows the composer's music better than anyone. Their account of the Tchaikovsky . . . is equally bracing.

Anne-Sophie Mutter, in concert with Andre Previn and the London Symphony Orchestra, wrings every ounce from the score, in a performance of captivating panache. Her tone sings freely in the opening movement, then turns abruptly tart.
She dances lightly through a field of blurry tone clusters in the middle Romance and makes the Finale a brassy picaresque. (KORNGOLD: Violin Concerto op. 35)

There is no gainsaying the beauty of Mutter's tone -- when she wishes to produce a warm, throbbing one -- or the crisp brilliance of her technique. She slashes the strings with electrifying effect in the last movement's introduction, for example, then bounds breathtakingly into the trépak . . . Mutter would be hard to beat in this concerto; she makes some of the soaring cantabile, which might have seemed slightly melodramatic, truly take wing. Previn creates an atmospheric backdrop for her rapt declamation in the second movement; and her reading of the finale . . . has plenty of crunch and benefits from Previn's bustling energy as well as his stylistic insight. Once again, the engineers have placed her far forward, but the orchestral web remains clear and transparent . . . Recommended urgently, then, for its transfigured Korngold Concerto and simply recommended for its elemental . . . Tchaikovsky Concerto.
