专辑简介
Old traditions of sacred music come to life on this
recording premiere of Hans Peter Türk’s Good Friday
Passion for soloists, choir, and organ. Since its first
performance two years ago this contemporary work
has often been presented in the Protestant churches
of the composer’s native Transylvania – and beyond.
Reminiscences of a thousand years of music history
resonate in its three parts based on texts from the
Gospel of Matthew, chorales, and psalms in an old
hymnbook.
Transylvania is an old cultural landscape with a
history of German settlement going back to the times
of the Nibelungenlied. It is a region in which the
influences of several cultures blend together as well
as a religious landscape with German-speaking
communities shaped by Protestantism and authentic
musical traditions. Hans Peter Türk, who lost his
father at an early age and found a mentor and role
model in a church musician, grew up in this
environment. Although he was not a member of the
Communist Party, his great talent and the support of
his patron enabled him to earn a doctorate during the
Rumanian dictatorship and to serve as an instructor in
the field of composition. He came to relatives in
Germany in 1990 but later returned to Cluj,
Transylvania, where today, at the age of sixty-eight,
he works as a composer and musicologist.
