The ten original, all-instrumental tracks range from light jazz to country flatpicking to gentle contemplations. Winnie's Guitar, more than anything, is a good excuse to lighten up and feel better about ourselves and the world. This, for example, from the features writer of a local women's journal: "Swimming with dolphins must feel something akin to experiencing the emotional dimension of Lynn Patrick's music." Yet another reviewer called the album "a project of joyous whimsy, as uplifting and happy as star gazing." That's because Lynn's music unpretentiously but unmistakably conveys a sense of soaring freedom - that sensation in the region of your heart that reminds you of being a child and swinging really, really high, until the chains slackened and you knew you could fly.
Winnie's Guitar features Lynn on guitar and lead guitar. In addition, Joe Scott (guitarist for Wind Machine) plays lead on three tracks. The E-Town Band's Chris Engleman plays bass on eight of the ten songs. Lila Sklar, a terrifically talented violinist, adds a gorgeous, melodic dimension to track one, "California Zephyr." And Gordon Burt, who plays with Denver's Runaway Express, contributed violin and mandolin parts to "Rosewood" plus some tuneful fiddling on "Pickin' A." Notes of interest: the cover art is by nationally acclaimed artist Laura Marshall (Ursula LeGuin's book illustrator of choice) And each of the first year's sales of Winnie's Guitar generated a dollar for the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
