Gloria Swanson (1899-1983)﹐是美國默片時代影星﹐就像其他默片影星一樣﹐當電影開始有聲年代﹐他們的輝煌歲月也從此一去不返。對於 Gloria Swanson 來說﹐她的命運也幾乎一樣﹐不過在1950年她拍了一套有聲代表作 Sunset Boulevard﹐而且獲得 Academy Awards 最佳女主角提名﹐還有 Golden Globe 最佳女主角。本來憑此片﹐她在電影圈事業得以起死回生﹐不過多個劇本都被她拒絕﹐只因角色都貼近Sunset Boulevard 中的女角Norma Desmond。1952年Three for Bedroom "C換來一片劣評﹐而且票房慘淡﹐終於這成為她最後一部擔任女主角的電影﹐之後她轉到電視圈發展。
1952年當 Richard Stapley 遇上鋼琴家Dickson Huges 時, 一見如故﹐並且合作寫了一套諷刺時事的音樂劇 About Time﹐其後他們遇上Gloria Swanson﹐可是她對演出該劇不感興趣﹐並聲言除非有人根據她的經典電影Sunset Boulevard改寫﹐否則對演出音樂處沒有絲毫興趣。於是不到一星期﹐這對拍擋即寫了3首歌曲﹐Gloria 通過電話試聽﹐即非常喜歡。四個月之後, Gloria 更請來音樂劇紅人Richard Rogers 試聽Boulevard全劇﹐對方的評價非常正面﹐於是有別於其他百老匯 Musical﹐ Gloria 選擇先在倫敦上演。
可是到了1956年﹐當兩位創作人跟這位因默片影星合作了一年後﹐Richard 與 Dickson 面對困難重重﹐而且最後選擇分道揚鏢。擁有故事版權的 Paramount 只有口頭授權﹐卻從未有任何法律授權行動﹐甚至還不願意提供影片給他們參考﹐於是他倆只得從 Gloria 手上的創本作參考﹐正當他們如火如荼地工作﹐英國方面取消了演出計劃﹐而 Gloria 則返回紐約。其後Dickson 與Gloria 錄下了 Demo Tape﹐而Gloria 更於1957年的 Steve Allen Show 中演唱了劇中插曲 Those Wonderful People。這一次的演出﹐換來不俗的反應﹐甚至得到製作人的興趣﹐可是50年代末﹐當Paramount 正式拒絕授權﹐此劇即告胎死複中﹐直到1993年 Andrew Lloyd Webber 製作 Sunset Boulevard 音樂劇﹐他取了部份創作成為新劇的一部份。
這張 Gloria Swanson In Boulevard CD﹐就收錄了當時的 Demo Tape﹐而當中Those Wonderful People 則是Steve Allen Show 的現場錄音﹐Dickson Huges 卻沒有亮相幕前﹐只在攝影機後配唱。除此之外還有6首 Bonus Track﹐都是Gloria Swanson在1929-1933年的78轉留聲唱片錄音﹐非常珍貴。
