Sarah Melody is a rising pop star and songwriter on the Canadian music scene, and she’s poised to share her talent with the world. Melody has earned the respect of her peers in the music industry, who consistently describe the sensation as “mature”, “confident”, “committed”, and most importantly, “lyrically and vocally gifted”.
Her artistic talent was easy to observe from a very early age. Melody (her actual middle name) has been focused on studio recording and live performance for the past several years, honing her skills and preparing for the release of her debut full-length album SIDE TWO (October 2007).
Melody’s album is a diverse collection of ballads, smooth R&B joints and up-tempo pop hits. She has worked with award-winning producers Luke McMaster (Canadian Idol winners Ryan Malcolm & Kalan Porter), Chris Perry (Keshia Chanté, Shawn Desman, George) and Marcus Kane (Snow, Gary Beals, X-Quisite).
Already a veteran of the commercial radio scene, Melody has several urban/CHR radio adds to her credit. At 14, she released her first commercial single, “Easy Come, Easy Go” (2004) which was followed by “Song of Peace” (2004) and “Letter of Hope” (2005), all of which were highlighted by industry publication Canadian Music Network as Hit Picks. In 2006, Melody was a grand prize winner of Kitchener radio station 915 The BEAT’s annual Rhythm of the Future talent search. The subsequent single she recorded with producer Marcus Kane, “Real Love”, has been serviced to commercial radio across Canada as a follow-up to “Hooked”.
While she is inspired by all forms of music, Melody cites R&B superstar Alicia Keys as her main musical influence, not only due to Keys’ immense musical talent, but also because of her strong commitment to charity work. Making a difference is important to Melody, and she incorporates community involvement into her artistic endeavours.
The Barrie-Ontario raised singer/songwriter is passionate about human rights issues, and is currently the national spokesperson for Youth for Human Rights Canada. In this role, she does speaking engagements and utilizes her songs as a tool for healing and empowerment.
After the devastating tsunami in Southeast Asia at the end of 2004, Melody recorded and released the song “Letter of Hope”. The proceeds from sales of the single went to tsunami relief efforts. The song earned her a spot as a finalist in the TVO Studio 2 Ontario Song Contest, and gained national attention.
Melody is a seasoned live performer and public speaker, having been featured on YTV, CFTO, TVO and Rogers Cable. Among her quickly growing roster of performances includes singing the national anthem at a Toronto Argonauts game (2005), showcasing at Canadian Music Week 2005, sets at the Barrie Waterfront Festival (2004 & 2005), Millenials Panelist at Canadian Music Week (2008).
