What began as a recording project for songwriter Shane Nelken (pianist/guitarist for New Pornographer A.C. Newman) has morphed into one of Canada's most promising super-bands featuring former members of The Beans, Bossanova, and Sparrow, among others. The Awkward Stage toured North America in support of their debut, 2006's acclaimed Heaven Is For Easy Girls. Garnering heaps of praise along the way, they opened for the New Pornographers as well as '60s legends The Zombies. Several appearances at CMJ were followed by a show at SXSW, where the Austin Chronicle selected the band as a "Must-See Act." With the addition of more reflective elements, this disc improves on the infectious pop of Heaven. No sophomore slump here.
