专辑简介
Jus Def and his X-Town Posse turned out to be among hip-hop's one-album wonders of the early 1990s — that is, they provided only one album and never recorded again. Released in 1990, Vocal Full Contact was the group's first album, as well as its last. Everything about this CD says East Coast rap in no uncertain terms; the rapping is heavily influenced by MC Shan and L.L. Cool J, and the production is as Big Apple-sounding as the rapping. Favoring the samples/scratching/drum machine approach that was big on the East Coast at the time, producers Double X (who also raps) and KG sound like they have spent a lot of time listening to Marley Marl and DJ Mark the 45 King. There isn't a trace of West Coast or Southern influence on this CD, and the participants show no awareness of either the gangsta rap that was coming from California or the X-rated bass music that South Florida was providing. Overall, the material is unremarkable, but Vocal Full Contact does have its moments. The most memorable tracks aren't the boasting tunes, but, rather, the ones that tell some type of story. That story could be about the dangerous life of a drug dealer ("&"Drug Dealers' Point of View""), or it could be a humorous description of the foolish games that men and women play when it comes to relationships ("Mind Games"). As uneven as this release is, the group had potential. But Vocal Full Contact didn't sell, and it didn't take the disc long to go out of print.
