The tamboura, an instrument that usually has four strings whose fundamental tone, fifth, and octave have long been used to produce the overtone-rich spatial sound for virtuosic Indian classical music, is used here by Michael Vetter not as accompaniment but as a solo instrument. He sees the recording as "example for teaching, which in combination with independent practice may help develop the listener’s ear" and to that end he gives practical tips in the booklet. The Tamboura Meditations are, however, primarily invitations to listen.
