专辑简介
Polish trio, Brasil and the Gallowbrothers Band, after a two year hiatus, enlist two drummers to move in a new and fresh direction for their fourth record. On this release they have put together a nearly flawless collection of six dark and moody atmospheric pieces that reveal intricate subtleties with each repeated listen.
Beginning with a flute as if to call the collective together, the first track clocking in at just over 10 minutes sets the tone for the album. Lonely, late-night, head-nodding vibes infuse this truly eclectic hybrid of bass-heavy, ambient, psych/post-rock reminiscent of Hood, pre-Cold House or For Carnation, but with leanings toward more mysterious and haunting ends; quiet and creeping, but never becoming mere background music. Dense layers of guitar, analog synth, piano, trumpet, jew’s harp, and various other instruments swirl and float in an echoed, reverbed ocean of sound above a polyrhythmic foundation made of traditional drum kits and electronics as well as udu, tabla, claves, and bells. Electronic bass tones permeate throughout with an almost dub-like quality while softly spoken mantra-like vocals unobtrusively lend accents of color. At times the drums move into the hypnotic groove of a drum circle but thankfully remain tasteful and never succumb to the ecstatic or overly-dramatic. Moving with the logic of a dream, there is a trance-like momentum that is built from a structure based on evolution and understated changes rather than reliance on repetition. This album knows where it’s going but chooses to cut its own path along the way and you can feel the confidence of the band in their sonic exploration. With the right balance of spontaneity /composition, experimentalism /songwriting, Brasil has created a bleak and hypnotic soundtrack for introverts, troglodytes, and daydreamers. Close your eyes, dream… Hi Brasil is where we are.
