The Pomegranate Seed is the soundtrack to Cosy Sheridan's one-woman-show "The Pomegranate Seed - An Exploration of Appetite, Body-Image and Myth in Modern Culture," a two-act narrative chronicling one woman's spiritual journey to the symbolic underworld and her emergence as more vibrant and compassionate person.This cd features 16 superbly crafted songs which weave the ancient Greek myth of Persephone into modern-day America. Songs include "Barbie", a humorous fictional letter to the Mattel corporation with suggested on a more anatomically reasonable Barbie doll; "Iphigenia", the tale of a young girl hospitalized with anorexia who compares her own story to the ancient tale of Iphigenia from the Trojan War who was sacrificed so her father's ships could sail off to war; and "Cordelia" which parallels the story of King Lear's youngest daughter with a modern young woman who has chosen a path which disappoints her father. Known for her wry social commentary on women surviving media and culture and life in general, Cosy combines this with an ability to write songs with an honesty that opens hearts.
