Midlake are 5 young ingenious young men hailing from the musically rich town of Denton, Texas. Second single Balloon Maker is a wonderfully eccentric and endearing tale about a small-town balloon maker. Led by melancholy brass, off-kilter keys, and Tim Smith's fragile vocals, this would melt even the hardest of hearts. The (equally eccentric) video for Balloon Maker was directed by Jason Lee (star of Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky etc). Midlake are his favourite band and he kindly gave of his services free of charge. Difficult to pigeonhole, Midlake have crafted a stunning sound that combines bittersweet psychedelic melodies with inspired electronica and warm acoustic sounds, drawing comparisons with the likes of The Flaming Lips and Grandaddy. 'B' sides on the CD single include the 'Balloon Maker' video as well as 3 superb new tracks.
