Angryape.com review - ''Listening to Being Kurtwood by Zucchini Drive, one is reminded of how arbitrary music genres are. Hip Hop a basic generic term for a massive range of musical style and artistic skill. Being Kurtwood comes high upon the imaginary scale that is used to arbitrarily rate music. They have produced an interesting and innovative album, at points one is reminded of Prefuse 73 (specifically the intros) and insert ‘informative’ documentary segments in the style of Boards Of Canada or DJ Shadow. The cross over between electronica and hip hop works well and the opening track is reminiscent of BoC, until the rap cuts in and individuality is stamped all over it. It is a pleasantly surprising album, one which will please a multiplicity of listeners as it combines aspects of electronica, hip hop and at times one could almost feel the chart friendly R&B beat, reminding one of a certain tune named Butterfly... not the greatest comparison perhaps, but the second track saves its fate by changing tact and bringing in a pared down guitar and low-fi electronic beat. An interesting album born from the collaboration of Marcus Graap and Tom de Geeter, the album benefits from the multiple collaborators ranging from 13&God to Populous to B. Fleischmann to finish with Alias.''
