For sure an oddity, this Czech sextet released this album of fourteen brief instrumentals blending rock and jazz, incorporating instruments that were out of the norm for this type of music (bassoon, cello), and utilizing a lot of found items as percussion instruments (bicycle pumps, piggy banks, etc.). The result is quite unusual, sometimes humourous and often captivating. No mere jazz fusion album, there’s a decided “new music” feel to proceedings here that reminds one of modern classical composers like Crumb and Penderecki. Not for all tastes to be certain, but for the ones who like this sort of thing, nothing else will do.
