专辑简介

“Cuentos de Navidad” (“Christmas tales”) is the fourth volume in the “Teoría y Práctica Melódica” ("Theory and Practice of Melody") series, right on time for the most special of topics: Christmas. It features, as usual, most part of the Jabalina roster of artists plus many guests, all of them Spanish, this time. We truly believe this volume is the most varied and special of the series. This volume has the added value of bearing the highest amount of unreleased tracks to date, as Christmas songs are not a typical issue and therefore the artists have been specially comissioned to write about it. Just in one case -Montevideo- the song was so brilliant that they had to be featured in their recently-released CD. The result is 19 songs which combine Souvenir’s stark-naked gentleness, Astrud’s crude vision, and the meticulous musings of Apenino, Parade and Ama. Or the festive atmosphere of La Casa Azul and La Monja Enana, as opposed to Nadadora and Mirafiori’s introspection. Or the vocal brilliance of Corazón, Color Caramelo de Ron and Underwater Tea Party contrasting with Uke and Raro y Apenino’s ethereal instrumentality. Montevideo, Aldo Linares and Humanoid contribute their delicate electronica while Polar’s buzzing and J'aime acoustic approach bring the record to a spectacular close. So, a huge range of interpretations of Christmas to make us sing, and move us. To sum up, “Cuentos de Navidad” (“Christmas Tales”) compiles much more than just 18 unreleased songs aobut Christmas: in full Christmas mode, it’s a treat full of surprises where the listener can find two interesting cover versions (Yoko Ono’s “Listen, the snow is falling” which Nadadora sing in Galician with a Galaxie 500 touch, or José Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” which La Casa Azul have transformed into this Christmas’ dancefloor hit with a distinctive Boney M flavour), exciting collaborations such as Apenino and Corazón on “Este reno de los cielos”, with Nando and Carlos’s voices accompanying Marco’s vocals like silver reindeers pulling a sleigh, or Raro y Apenino in a surprising instrumental (“Panxoli?a para Nuna”). But there’s more: Charlie Mysterio’s (formerly from Los Caramelos) latest incarnation as Color Caramelo de Ron, with a wonderful tune called “Up with xmas”, Astrud’s latest gem right before recording their forthcoming LP, a song called, revealingly, “Son los padres”. Or the surprising debut of famed dj Aldo Linares, who croons his way into a promising solo career. Plus Humanoid’s return (Arturo Vaquero with help from vocalist Carmen) with the touching “Adornos rotos”. And, to top it all, the moving paean that J'aime (Jaime Cristóbal solo) dedicates to the late Grant McLennan from he Go-Betweens (“Christmas without Grant”), with a special dedication which we extend to all the departed. In the artwork department, we have to mention Fernando Vicente’s marvellous illustration, packaged by Nacho Olivares’s following Javier Aramburu’s template for the whole series.
