A highly skilled pianist and organist, Piccioni played regularly for friends in the Italian film world, until Michelangelo Antonioni suggested that he compose for the big screen. Working under the pseudonym Piero Morgan, Piccioni at first specialized in a sophisticated soft jazz style, particularly in his work for Alberto Sordi, with whom he collaborated on some thirty films.
