Foreign Beggars are a British hip hop collective based in London, stemming from diverse international backgrounds. The group consists of MCs Orifice Vulgatron and Metropolis, human beatboxer Shlomo, producer DagNabbit and DJ Nonames.
They first appeared on the scene in 2003 with their debut LP 'Asylum Speakers' and were then awarded 'Best Group' and 'Best Single' at the Lyric Pad UK Hip Hop Awards 2005. Foreign Beggars are renowned for their live show, which combines Orifice's ultra-hype raps with human beatboxing, turntablism, improvisation and freestyles. They often appear with guest performers from the extended family, including Dr. Syntax, Stig Of The Dump, Foz, Skrein and Dubbledge.
The crew have released a several 12"s and EPs and really made their mark after independently releasing their critically acclaimed debut LP Asylum Speakers. Foreign Beggars have collaborated and toured with the Cream of UK's Hip Hop movement, with Shlomo appearing on Bjork's album Medulla and NoNames contributing to Damon Albarn's Gorillaz project.
With forthcoming projects with DJ Sparo, DJ Vadim, Dudley Perkins, WildChild (Lootpack), OHNO, Scratch Perverts, DJ IQ, DJ Mentat and Euphrates, the crew see no boundaries with diversifying their sound. Foreign Beggars are also renowned for their explosive live performances, which recently saw them perform at Glastonbury, Fabric and Hip Hop Kemp in Prague. They have supported Public Enemy, Roots Manuva, Beatnuts, Masta Ace, Grand Master Flash, Talib Kweli, Wu Tang, Asian Dub Foundation, Last Emperor, Mark Ronson, Ja Rule, Blak Twang and many more.
Since 2006 they have been presenting the Mic Show on the BBC Asian Network.
Dr. Syntax is a major part of Foreign Beggars and he is a Nottingham Forest Fan
