Up in them thar hills of Stillorgan, Gavin Glass has been creating American roots music that would do his transatlantic neighbours proud. Glass started out in indie band Suddenly Smyth, and he seems to have gone a damascene transformation, switching allegience from the fey English indie scene to robust, country flavoured music. It's a manthle that suits him down to the dirt, and lends an autgenticity to songs suchs as Older than my years, Director's Cut and Sweet Ophelia. If Southern Comfort weighs in with The Band circa Big Pink, it's probably deliberate; if Underneath The Stars sounds like Glass is being backed by The Street Band, that's because he really did record with Springsteen's cre. cathy Davey adds fine detail to Ragdoll, while Wrecking Ball ends with a hellfire sermon from Rev WC Butcher.
