Biography
Dikta is a young, four piece indie rock band from Iceland, where gloomy endless nights during the long winter months and nearly 24 hours of perpetual daylight from June to August set the perfect atmosphere for creating great songs. The members of Dikta, Haukur, Skúli and the two Jóns, have been friends since early childhood, and after forming Dikta in 1999, they soon gained a large following for their unique yet soulful haunting indie rock.
In 2006 Dikta recorded their second album, “Hunting for Happiness”. Produced by Ace of Skunk Anansie and released by the Sugarcubes-owned label, Smekkleysa/Bad Taste, it quickly became one of Iceland's best selling rock albums, with three of its singles reaching the top of the charts in Iceland. Dikta’s performance at Iceland Airwaves in front of a packed venue earned them a write up in Rolling Stone Magazine, and after hitting the local venues for a year, Dikta headed out to play clubs in London, Copenhagen, L.A. and New York. Dikta has shared stages with bands like Vampire Weekend, We Are Scientists, CSS, Ra Ra Riot, Nico Vega and !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk) and is known for a powerful yet intimate live show.
In 2008 Dikta had the second-most played song on the biggest Icelandic radio station, Rás 2 (Just Getting Started).
Dikta is currently recording material for their third album, due out in 2009.
