Prolific in almost all genres: two operas, six symphonies, three solo concertos, chamber music, piano and organ music, a large number of songs as well as occasional music; Carl Nielsen was the most important Danish composer of the first third of the 20th century. In his very early works, he dissociated himself from late Romanticism, following the classicism of Brahms. In his later works, he adopted features from European modernism.
