Ustad Asad Ali Khan is today, probably, one of the last known musicians whose playing opens up the subtle nuances of the traditional Rudra Veena in its full variety. His musical family tradition makes Ustad Asad Ali Khan today also to be one of the representatives of the Khandarbani style, one of the main Dhrupad traditions. This above all, on the Rudra Veena,represents the precise control of the microtonal nuances and at the same time accentuates ornamental development of the melody.
