Every Breath You Take: The Singles was The Police's first compilation album, released in 1986. In 1990, the album was repackaged in New Zealand, Australia and Spain as Their Greatest Hits with a different cover.
According to Stewart Copeland, the vibe in the studio while recording Don't Stand So Close to Me '86 was very good, which may have led to work on more songs. An injury occurred to him at the shoulder while playing polo, though, prevented them to continue the sessions.
