In March of 2006 the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra went into the studio; a converted theatre classroom on the outskirts of Beijing. In three live sessions the band laid down 18 tracks; nine vocal and nine instrumental that would form their first CD release entitled “Yi Nian” (One Year). The double CD features a wide range of styles and playing in the jazz genre including a blazing vocal remake of My Favorite Things, a funk adaptation of an Ornette Coleman classic, Old Gospel, and nine instrumental originals written by Roberts, Beckstead and Liu Xiaoguang.
