Reggae”是一种风格独特的流行音乐形式，最早由牙买加歌手鲍勃马里引入美国，进而风靡全球。许多歌手都演唱过具有“Reggae”风格的歌曲，但是走单一“Reggae”路线而又获得巨大成功的，恐怕只有UB40乐队一个。
乐队由不同种族的八个失业者组成，UB40是英国政府发放的一种救济金申请表的名字，看来这帮家伙饿着肚子也要玩Reggae。不过当他们的唱片获得了白金销量后，就再也不用填写UB40了。“Reggae怪杰”之称。
UB40的成员有Robin(主音吉它手)，Ali Campbell（主唱兼吉它手)，Earl Falconer(贝司手)，Mickey Vivrue（键盘手），Brian Travers （萨克斯管手），Jim Brown(鼓手)，Norman Hassan（打击乐手)，Astro(Reggae Toaster)。
乐队成员几经变易之后，1980年首次推出的专辑《Singing Off》取得了成功，1983年的专辑《Labour Of Love》在公众中引起不小的反响，单曲“Red Red Wine”不仅使他们在英国登上排行榜首位，而且还使乐队得到了国际声誉。随后的一系列作品使UB40“流行雷击”（Pop-Reggae）的地位得到了稳固。他们作品的风格源自牙买加SKA/Rock音乐，与纯粹的Reggae音乐相比，UB40的音乐更易被人们所接受。这支来自伯明翰的乐队创立了一种英国式的“雷击”旋律，并融合了柔和的歌声，流畅清澈的萨克斯管和轻松的“雷击”节奏是该乐队的特点。
