On its 2007 major-label debut, the Chicago-based indie-pop group This Is Me Smiling offers up spry, melodic tunes in the Ben Folds/Fountains of Wayne vein. While the influences of those acts is clear (see the buoyant, playful "Mixin' Up Adjectives"), TIMS leans more toward an emo/punk-pop sound at times, particularly on the driving "Goodbye to Each New Day," giving the freshly scrubbed quartet a notably wide appeal.
