I forget how i heard about the Goslings. But what an intriguing album title. Is it the title of the Edvard Munch cover artwork i wonder? A resultant Google search reveals no immediate answer to that. And of course, it's so very limited.
Was there anything here to savour?
I wasn't prepared to shell out for it at first hearing. But after i took it out for a long walk through the woods it made sense. Being locked inside the maelstrom of noise and yet finding this warm melodic heart. Yet still with the violent intensity of over-amplified instruments writhing all around.
Once you zero in on Lesley Soren's pretty voice and the resultant melody, any mere atmosphere at first created by the rest of the racket is made immediately more succinct in context. You feel cocooned. And especially in songs such as "Haruspex" (the ancient Roman practice of telling the future via the appearance of recently killed sheep or poultry livers) you get a sense of eerie dynamics as in the aforementioned song's incredible keyboard led outro.
Anyway, as i said before. It was very limited. Of course this must lead to the appeal. We all like the thought of rarely heard mythical albums that almost noone owns.

I did find a copy at last. I think it was from China. Chinatown maybe? I dunno. The postman creased it.
If anyone who hasn't heard this lp reads this, please, give the album a shot. There is nothing else out there like it. It just might take a little work to appreciate it.
