This album came about with my desire to put a "Texas" signature sound to some of my favorite guitar instrumentals I heard on the radio as a kid. I've played most of these tunes around Austin in a variety of different bands through the years, and picked out some good friends to help me record 'em. That's Appa Perry on fender bass, formerly with Alan Haynes, a great guitar picker from around here, Danny Galindo, formerly with the legendary "13th Floor Elevators" on bass (Sleepwalk), Jay Langford on drums, who had just got off the road with local bluesman W.C. Clark, Gary Lippe, my "crazy cajun" friend on keyboards, and Brad Andrew on tenor sax, who was playing with grammy winning Marcia Ball around the time of this recording, which was recorded, mixed and mastered at Austin Trax in November of 1999. I was, at the time, playing lead guitar with "Lewis (Cowdrey) & the Hurricanes"- Lewis played harp & vocals with Jimmie Vaughan and a very young Stevie Ray in a local '70s blues band called "Texas Storm", we had Johnny Winters drummer Uncle John Turner, and Danny Galindo on bass. Lewis listened to the original master of this project, was very helpful and supportive, even found a percussionist to help out on "Santana Wind". I hope you like it as well, Michael Hamm
