John Blair is mostly know for his obscure CTI release We Belong Together album which is one of those marmite type of records. You're either going to love it, or you're going to hate it. He was also know for co-creating the Vitar (a combination of an acoustic guitar and violin) and played in an unusual jazz, soul, prog-rock style.
But Jean-Luc Ponty this is not!
Mystical Soul was Blair's first solo offering after a string of support credits including the likes of Isaac Hayes, James Brown and TV spots alongside Johnny Carson and Bill Cosby. Good looks, silver tongue, and talented fingers. He was a player in every sense it would seem, and one you probably wouldn't want to f*ck wit. He was also the founder of the Schizenryu Karate school, more commonly known as the American natural style. More like John Shaft I've a feeling this guy was drinking Dos Equis at the end of an evening with a string of ladies by his side.
Unfortunately John's mystical soul left this plain in 2006, but rest assured he's upstairs turning harps into completely new instruments and teaching angel's the art self defense.
