This program features a selection of Piazzolla's most completely realized compositions in thrilling new arrangements for piano trio, performed by some of Europe's most distinguished soloists and including the famous "Le Grand Tango" (one of the Four Tangos). Astor Piazzolla was accused of "strange ideas" when he presented his "tango nuevo" in Argentina in the 1950s, blending elements of classical music, jazz, and rock with the sadness and desperation of the traditional tango. Piazzolla's tangos were no longer mere dance music, but works of art for the concert hall, and many classical musicians now embrace them in their programs.
