David Metzner - guitar
Founded by bassist Michael Cruz and vocalists Gretchen Lieberum and Maya Rudolph, Supersauce formed in 1993 at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Picking up where bands like the Brand New Heavies and Incognito left off, the group achieved local stardom almost overnight. From their first gig at a Halloween house party, they immediately graduated to rocking sell out crowds at infamous Santa Cruz institution, The Catalyst. The recipe was simple -- part funk, part groove, and all party. As their theme song goes, "once you taste The Sauce, you'll never be the same."
In 1995, The Sauce moved to San Francisco and Rudolph headed to L.A. to pursue her acting career. Her move proved wise as she soon landed a gig with The Groundlings, and is now in her third season as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. From 1995 - 1998, Lieberum fronted the band on her own, honing her skills even further and blossoming as a songwriter. In this time, the band increased their fanbase exponentially, touring the West Coast and performing locally at The Elbo Room, The Fillmore, and The Great American Music Hall. Supersauce disbanded in 1999 when Lieberum moved to Los Angeles to pursue her solo career. In 2002, Gretchen released Brand New Morning, her debut record on Lakeshore Records.
While the band recorded several EP's between 1993 and 1997, 1998's Keep On Keepin' On is their only full-length effort. The album is a true gem -- the culmination of five years of writing, touring, and recording experience. "Soldier," a hooky dance favorite was featured on ESPN's 1999 X Games broadcast. Other highlights include Alex Budman's 'en fuego' sax solo on "Song In C," and a truly amazing latin horn and piano meltdown at the end of "Mango Street." Due to popular demand, Rosie Records is re-releasing a limited number of units of this previously out of print CD. Don't wait...get your copy now, while supplies last!
In 1999, bassist Michael Cruz discovered vocalist Latrice Barnett singing in a San Francisco nightclub. The two began writing together, bringing in ex-Sauce alums David Metzner, Tim Carter, and Jordan Glasgow to complete the package. Calling themselves the Five Point Plan, these five have toured extensively and shared the stage with artists including Sade, India Arie, and the Couting Crows. They've released two critically acclaimed CD's, both available for purchase on CDBaby.
