Recorded in 1988 at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, this recital captures the great Italian tenor in his prime – accompanied by the MET’s music director, James Levine. “Pavarotti and the Italian Tenor” fills out the CD as a special bonus. Filmed in Pavarotti’s home town of Modena, the tenor discusses and pays homage to his illustrious predecessors. As well as archival footage of Caruso, Schipa, Gigli and Di Stefano, Pavarotti himself performs several songs (none of which are found in the MET recital).
