This fifth instalment of Cronica's Product series is a split between Frans De Waard's Freiband project and another luminary of the Dutch laptop scene, Boca Raton. Both sets take the form of live recordings, as captured at the 2004 Earational Festival. The Freiband material is based around reworkings of De Waard's Microbes album, and is constituted from rasping, shuddering processions of time stretched glitches which take on different textural identities as the set progresses. It's certainly abstract, difficult music, but there's something very engaging about the consistency of the sheer, unwavering oddness of it all. Boca Raton's half takes on a slightly more conventional electroacoustic trajectory, exploring varying degrees of microsound sonic miniaturisation from the high frequency complexity of 'Circle 2' to the spectrally filtered exhalations of 'Circle 5'.
