本张唱片收录了和巴比罗利联系最密切的几段录音
首先是难得一见的英国国歌，其实这是巴比罗利每次音乐会的必备开场曲目。巴比罗利的处理模式有些类似新年音乐会中的拉德茨基，乐队奏响音乐时巴比从后台走上指挥台，先面向听众指挥（不过听众要全体起立合唱的），然后再转向乐队指挥。
沃恩威廉斯的第八交响曲是提献给巴比罗利，并由后者首演的，权威性毋庸置疑。这部在威廉斯交响曲中受到忽视的作品，在巴比棒下体现出作曲家精心的设计。
巴克斯的双簧管五重奏也和巴比罗利有着个人的联系。早年的巴比作为大提琴手参加了作品的首演。此后他将这部作品改编为双簧管和乐队合奏的形式，并留下本录音。担任双簧管独奏的是巴比的太太露丝维尔。
戴留斯也是巴比罗利钟爱的英国作曲家之一，《孟春初闻杜鹃啼》是巴比转行指挥后最早演出的作品之一。
