The third volume in a brand-new series of seven volumes of the complete keyboard sonatas of Scarlatti, with appendices and recent discoveries, plus six continuo sonatas. This six-CD set comprises one of the volumes published in Venice in 1753, and two in 1754. The complete collection will comprise thirty-eight CDs. The last volume will be issued in July 2007 to coincide with the 250th anniversary of Scarlatti's death.Richard Lester is founder and artistic director of the Cirencester Early Music Festival, an annual event designed to promote excellence in the performance of early music. These recordings use the critical edition of the works completed in the early 1980s by Kenneth Gilbert.
