It almost equalled a political and cultural sensation when the Ukrainian government returned the presumably lost archive of the Berlin Academy of Song to Germany in a festive act in 2001. The archive of the "Sing-Akademie zu Berlin", founded in 1791, had been evacuated during World War II. It was finally detected in Kiev. Now, hundreds of hand-written scores and archived copies are awaiting their rediscovery. Joshard Daus, long-term collaborator to Sergiu Celibidache and director of the Academy of Song since 2002, has taken on the task to produce all the works in the archive again by and by. Capriccio will accompany this journey into the past and provide the findings to the musical world on CD. The St. John's Passion by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach will be the first, heard again in Berlin in 2003 for the first time since its premiere in 1772. Capriccio publishes a live recording of the concert at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, performed by the Academy of Song in Berlin and conducted by Joshard Daus.
