The Crush is a live recording by the Pierre Hurel Trio. It is intimate and adventurous, recorded in a unique setting; twenty or thirty guests gathered around the Trio. The Trio plays mostly standards in a way that is reminiscent of certain Bill Evans or Keith Jarrett recordings. The selections are chosen for their lyrical quality as well as for being good vehicles to allow the three musicians to express themselves.
The piano itself is a New York Steinway signed by its former owner, legendary classical pianist Ignacy Paderewski.
From the first note one is drawn in by the crisp and purely acoustic sounds of the Trio. The lyrical playing of the piano and bass is matched by the masterful use of brushes by the drummer.
