Madox brings a touch of Italian flair to stereos this summer with his debut album release ‘Urban Plastic’. The man his mum calls Stefano Miele is one of Europe’s biggest dance music producer / DJs and has delivered here one wholesome, thirteen-course mista of UK influenced electronica, fused with Italian music traditions.
Opener ‘Plastic Fantastic’s squelchy funk twister sets the pace from the start, with Ashley ‘Freakpower’ Slater dropping in to add his vocal stylings to the track. ‘Heel Of God’ switches up the b-line, adding sampled vocals and laying the focus firmly on the bass, while ‘The Funk’ does exactly what it says on the tin and ‘Cabeleira’ throws in Brazilian samba for a couple of antipasti.
Grab a whistle and get involved as the Latin vibes continue on ‘El Magnifico’, where Brazilian hip hoppers (and Latin Grammy award winners) Cabal and DG strut across a trademark breakbeat backdrop. ‘Hypnotic Funk’ takes a warped descent into the darker reaches, continued on ‘Dope On Strings’ and moving into the almost hypnotic chants to ‘Check Electro’.
Madox was first approached by Mantra (winners of Best Label at this year’s Breakspoll Awards) in 2003, having spent the preceding years honing his DJ skills in clubs around Italy. His locked funk style caught the ears of Italy’s first breakbeat label, and having also kept his production hand in, he soon caught the ears of the wider community with his G Toolz EP releases on the label – with The Plumps and Rennie Pilgrem both citing standout track ‘Resonance Song’ as a personal favourite.
Nominated as a Breakthrough Act at the 2005 Breakspoll Awards, Best DJ, Producer and Remixer at the 2006 event, and featured as ‘one to watch out for’ in DJ Magazine, Madox continued to build his reputation as one half of Trouble Soup!! with label mate Santos. The pair toured all over the UK, notched up a number of remixes between them and also found time to mix their own Y4K compilation for Distinct’ive. Madox also managed to squeeze in a couple more collaborations; working with John Acquaviva on last years electro-house anthem ‘Feedback’, and the follow up, featuring Tommie Sunshine – ‘Running From’.
2007 has seen Madox make the move to live in the UK and now settled, he’s ready to unleash thirteen tracks of electro-tinged breakbeat onto our dancefloors. First single ‘Plastic Fantastic’ is already doing damage, with remixes from Riva Starr and Jaimie Fanatics. Cop the long player from October 29th.
