This set of two CDs presents a selection from Bartók's varied piano oeuvre. It is a combination of performances by pianists András Schiff and Zoltán Kocsis and historical recordings of the composer himself.
Schiff and Kocsis mainly play music based on folk music, such as the three Hungarian folk tunes and the well-known Rumanian Folkdances. Bartók plays a selection of some three dozens of pieces from the last three volumes of his six-volume Mikrokosmos.
A rare opportunity to hear Bartók play his own compositions.
Recordings of Bartók made in London and New York in 1937 and 1940 respectively.
